Seventeen men ordained as deacons for diocese
Bishop Allen Vigneron ordained 17 men to the permanent diaconate Nov. 1 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland. The men, who have completed at least three years of formation, will now assume both liturgical and service ministries throughout the diocese.

The new deacons are: Jorge Angel Arias (All Saints, Hayward), John Archer Jr. (St. Raymond, Dublin), John Ashmore (Most Holy Rosary, Antioch), Herbert Casey (St. Bonaventure, Concord), Clement Chen (St. Monica, Moraga), David Cloyne (St. Michael, Livermore), Rey Caluya Encarnacion (St. Agnes, Concord), Richard Gierak (St. Bonaventure, Concord), Charles Glover (Holy Spirit, Fremont), Arturo Jimenez (St. Paul, San Pablo), Martin Leach (Transfiguration, Castro Valley), John Nguyen (St. Felicitas, San Leandro), Gil Pesqueira (Catholic Community of Pleasanton), Peter Cuong Dac Ta (St. Joachim, Hayward), Ronald Tutson (St. Benedict, Oakland), G. Lance Vivet (Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fremont), Ken Wedge (St. Ignatius, Antioch).
