Cathedral progress

A worker nears one of two platforms that will hold nearly ten tons of pipes, wind chests, mechanisms and façade for the cathedral organ.

CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE LIGHT PHOTOS

Above, the last of the 100-foot tall glu-laminated Douglas fir beams were lifted into place for the new Cathedral of Christ the Light during the week of July 9. This month, a veil of glass, comprised of over 1000 4.5-foot by 10-foot’ panels, will begin to be placed around this wooden vault. The building is located at the corner of Harrison Street and Grand Avenue, across from Oakland’s Lake Merritt.
