Catholics to lawmakers: ‘Don’t shred safety net’
for state’s poor
Prayers for protection
Face masks are seen on a man and a statue
of St. Jude, patron of desperate situations, during a prayer
service outside a church in Mexico City April 28. Masses, canceled
in the Mexico City Archdiocese since April 26 because of an
outbreak of the H1N1 virus, were to resume May 10.
Father Dan Danielson, administrator in the Oakland Diocese,
sent a letter to pastors April 30 urging them to follow “common
sense guidelines” during liturgical celebrations. These
include asking parishioners to stay home if they are ill and
reminding all ministers of Communion, including priests, to
sanitize their hands before distributing the host.
