Bishop
Salvatore Cordileone
named Bishop of Oakland
Pope Benedict XVI has named Bishop Salvatore Joseph Cordileone,
52, as the fourth bishop of Oakland.
Speaking at a press conference just hours after his appointment
on March 23, Bishop Cordileone offered his condolences to the
families of four slain Oakland police officers. The tragedy,
he said, points to the great need to build “God’s
kingdom in our communities.”
