SVdP offers free e-waste disposal

Need to dispose of your analog television that won’t function without a converter beginning next month? What about the printer that died and the computer that crashed? And the microwave that’s lost its zapping power?

The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Alameda County will take these and other electronic waste products and recycle them through a certified recycler. The program insures that hazardous material is kept out of the landfill and helps fund St. Vincent de Paul’s jobs program for people with barriers to employment. In addition, the donations are tax-deductable.

“Our e-waste program creates a win-win situation for everyone” wrote Melanie Anguay, SVdP’s director of social enterprises, in the Society’s quarterly newsletter.

The Society offers free bulk pickup of computer and electronic equipment at homes and offices. Accepted items are: computer monitors, CPUs, laptop computers, VCR/DVD players, scanners, printers, microwave ovens, keyboards and mice, hard drives, cables and cords, radios, televisions. To arrange for pick-up, call (510) 638-7600.
