The Cathedral of Christ the Light is joining with other
East Bay houses of worship to host prayer services for President-elect
Barack Obama and his administration. The services precede an area-wide
event, Jan. 20, at Oakland’s Oracle Arena celebrating President-elect
Obama’s inauguration that day in Washington, D.C.
Bishop Allen Vigneron will preside at the first of five community prayer
services, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m. at the cathedral. The Interfaith Gospel Choir
will provide the music. “This is our way of praying the best for
the new administration,” said Father Paul Minnihan, cathedral provost.
People of all faiths are invited to participate.
Other prayer services will take place at Congregation Beth El in Berkeley
on Jan. 13, St. Paul AME Church in Berkeley on Jan. 14, Beebe Memorial
Cathedral in Oakland on Jan. 18 and Acts Full Gospel Church in Oakland
on Jan. 19.
The Jan. 20 celebration at the Arena begins at 8 a.m. Doors open at 7
a.m. Tickets ($5 per person) are available at the Arena Box Office and
at www.Ticketmaster.com.
Christ the Light Cathedral is located at 2121 Harrison Street in Oakland.
Underground parking is available at the cathedral garage. Enter from 21st
Street.
