Sister Renilde Cade, O.P.
Dominican Sister Renilde Cade, former congregational prioress for the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, died at the University of Arizona Medical Center on Nov. 13 as a result of a brain injury caused by a fall. She was 76 years of age and had been a religious for 59 years.

Born Cecelia Marie Cade in Myers, Montana, she spent her early years in Montana before her family moved to Portland, Oregon. After completing her elementary and secondary education she joined the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose in 1949 and became a teacher in schools in Oregon and California, including St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland (1957-1961). She also served as assistant director of development, development director and dean of Queen of the Holy Rosary College in Fremont.

She served for 22 years in congregational leadership, 10 as Congregational Prioress, from 1985 to 1995. A gifted writer, she was instrumental in helping to write the revised Constitution, the governing document of her community.

Subsequently, Sister Cade worked in the Catholic schools department in the Diocese of Orange and in the last five years served in Tucson, Arizona, at Pio Decimo Center and most recently at St. Thomas More Catholic Newman Center, University of Arizona. During her time in Tucson, she volunteered with Los Samaritanos, bringing humanitarian aid to migrants in the desert.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Edmund and Bernice Cade of Gearhart, Oregon; her sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Corwin Albrecht of Billings, Montana; and 10 nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass was held Nov. 20 at the Dominican Sisters’ Motherhouse in Fremont, and burial was the following day at the Motherhouse. Memorial donations may be made the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, 43326 Mission Blvd., Fremont, CA 94539-5829.

Sister Doris Donaldson, PBVM

Presentation Sister Doris Donaldson, an educator who worked at two Catholic schools in the Oakland Diocese, died Nov. 12 at the Presentation Motherhouse in San Francisco. She was 89 and had been a Sister of the Presentation for 57 years.

Born in Mason City, Iowa, she became a registered nurse in her hometown and later moved to Los Angeles where she worked at Queen of Angels Hospital for seven years. She joined the Sisters of the Presentation in 1951 and attended the University of San Francisco where she earned her bachelor’s degree and teaching credential.

Sister Donaldson, formerly known as Sister Mary Camilla, taught second grade for 10 years at Catholic schools in California, including St. Columba School in Oakland (1954- 1956, and 1962/1963) and at St. John the Baptist in San Lorenzo (1957 -1959). She also taught and served as a school nurse at Presentation High School in San Francisco.

In recent years she lived at the Pre-sentation Motherhouse in San Francisco where she was engaged in the ministry of prayer.

Survivors include her sister, Lois Donaldson Tracy, nieces, nephews and their families.

The funeral Mass was held Nov. 18 at the Presentation Motherhouse, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Presentation, Development Office, 281 Masonic Ave., San Francisco, CA 94118.
