Renovated cemetery blessed
Bishop Allen Vigneron walks toward a section of niches in the new Our Lady of Guadalupe area of Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch during a blessing ceremony, March 15. The 145-year-old cemetery recently underwent a $2 million makeover that added a mausoleum, burial sections and two outdoor columbaria for cremated remains.

Bishop Vigneron blesses six acres of vineyards that have been planted along the perimeter of the cemetery. Cabernet and zinfandel grapes will be harvested and sold to winemakers.

The new Risen Christ chapel with seating for 100 people provides a place for vigil services that previously had to be conducted outside.
