Sister M. Eunice Malloy, SHF

Sister M. Eunice Malloy, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family for 75 years and a resident at the Motherhouse in Fremont, died Feb. 15 at the age of 92.

Born in San Francisco, Sister Malloy joined the Holy Family Sisters in1933 and made her final profession of vows in 1938. Her ministry included work in day homes, child care and religious education.

She served at St. Vincent’s Day Home in Oakland (1938-1941), St. John the Baptist Parish in El Cerrito (1941-1943), St. Ambrose in Berkeley (1941-1947), St. Louis Bertrand in Oakland (1943-1947), Our Lady of Mercy in Point Richmond (1948-1950), St. Paul in San Pablo (1948-1950), St. Mark in Richmond ( 1948-1950), Mary Help of Christians in Oakland (1949-1950), Corpus Christi in Fremont (1975-1983), St. Edward in Newark (1975-1977), St. Joseph in Fremont (1975-1977), and St. Leonard in Fremont (1983-1986).

She also served many years in Nevada, San Diego and Los Angeles.

The funeral Mass was held Feb. 20 at the Motherhouse Chapel in Fremont.

Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Memorial contributions may be made to the works of the Sisters of the Holy Family, P.O. Box 3248, Fremont, CA, 94539.

Sister Anysia McGovern, OP

Sister Anysia McGovern, a longtime educator and former teacher at Oakland’s Bishop O’Dowd High School, died Feb. 28 in Adrian, Mich. She was 94 years of age and in the 76th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

A native of Detroit, she earned degrees at Siena Heights College in Adrian., Mich., the University of Detroit, and a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from Holy Names College in Oakland.

She spent 39 years as an educator in Michigan, Illinois, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Florida as well as at Bishop O’Dowd High School (1967-71). In Florida she also served as a pastoral minister for 27 years.

The funeral Mass was held March 1 in St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. Burial was in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts to the Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Dr., Adrian, Mich., 49221.
