Eighteen men who are preparing to become permanent deacons
in the Oakland Diocese were instituted as acolytes on Feb. 16 at St. Paschal
Baylon Church in Oakland. This brings them one step closer to ordination.
They are:

Herbert Casey, St. Bonaventure Parish, Concord;
Clement Chen, St. Monica Parish, Moraga;
David Cloyne, St. Michael Parish, Livermore;
Rey Encarnacion, St. Agnes Parish, Concord;
Richard Gierak, St. Bonaventure Parish, Concord;
Charles Glover, Holy Spirit Parish, Fremont;
Arturo Jimenez, St. Paul Parish, San Pablo;
Martin Leach, Transfiguration Parish, Castro Valley;
John Nguyen, St. Felicitas Parish, San Leandro;
Gilbert Pesqueira, Catholic Community of Pleasanton;
