Students observe Catholic Schools Week
throughout the diocese

Catholic schools in the Oakland Diocese celebrated Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 27- Feb. 2, with a wide variety of activities that showcased their academic programs, community service projects, and Catholic faith. This year’s theme was “Catholic Schools Light the Way.”

Father Paul Minnihan, provost for the new Cathedral of Christ the Light, tells a group of students about the cathedral’s soaring glass structure during a Catholic Schools Week rally at Lake Merritt, across the street from the new building, on Feb. 3.

Shannon Davis and Priscilla Alva, students at St. Martin de Porres Regional School in Oakland, pray during the rally which drew students and families from several elementary schools in the Oakland Diocese.

The school is affiliated with the Dominican Sisters and each class has adopted a retired Sister who receives letters and other gestures of friendship and support from the students.
