Sr. Michael Mary Madden, OP
Sister Michael Mary Madden, a former assistant principal at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, died Jan. 30 in Adrian, Mich. She was 88 years of age and in the 70th year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.

Born Mary Elizabeth Madden in Chicago, she spent 36 years as an educator. In addition to her work at Bishop O’Dowd, she taught in Joliet, Ill., and was a principal at schools in Oceanside, Calif., and Las Vegas. She also served as pastoral associate and director of ministry of care at a parish in Burbank and was a pastoral minister in Las Vegas. She became a resident in the congregation’s Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich., in 2007.

She is survived by a sister, Mercy Sister Bernadette Madden of Chicago Ridge, Ill. She was preceded in death by a sister, Adrian Dominican Sister Colette Madden.

The funeral Mass was held Feb. 2 in St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. Burial was in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to: Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 East Siena Heights Dr., Adrian, Mich., 49221.

Br. Felix Victoris Masson, FSC
Brother Felix Victoris Masson, a member of the De La Salle Christian Brothers for 71 years, died in Napa on Feb. 5. He was 88.

A native of San Leandro, Brother Masson entered the novitiate at Mont La Salle and received the habit of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1937. He professed his final vows seven years later.

In response to an appeal for volunteers, he requested to be sent as a missionary to the Philippines in 1938. His first assignment there was as a teacher at De La Salle University in Manila, which marked the start of his long commitment to the Filipino people as a teacher, counselor and principal in various elementary and high schools.

The funeral Mass was held Feb. 8 in the chapel at Mont La Salle. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lasallian Education Fund, De La Salle Institute, 4401 Redwood Road, Napa, CA 94558.
