Thousands of participants are expected to come from
throughout northern and central California to draw attention to the harm
caused by abortion and to affirm the value of unborn life during the fourth
annual Walk for Life West Coast, Jan. 19 in San Francisco.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. at Justin Herman Plaza on Market Street
with a pre-walk rally. Scheduled speakers include Alveda King, a niece
of the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.; Gianna Jessen, an abortion survivor;
Jesse Romero, a radio host and evangelist; and Father Frank Pavone, national
director of Priests for Life. Eduardo Verastequi, star of the film “Bella,”
is an invited guest.
After the rally, participants will walk along the Embarcadero to Marina
Green where a youth rally with live music by Matt Maher and an informational
faire will be held.
The walk will be preceded by an 8 a.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral,
1111 Gough St., concelebrated by San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer,
Bishop Ignatius Wang of San Francisco, Oakland Bishop Allen Vigneron,
Bishop Daniel Walsh of Santa Rosa, Bishop Tod Brown of Orange County,
Auxiliary Bishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Diego and Auxiliary Bishop
Rutilio Del Riego of San Bernardino.
There will also be a pre-rally Holy Hour, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. at Sts.
Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street.
