Below is the statement issued by the Oakland Diocese
on Nov. 14 regarding the appointment of Father Padraig Greene as parochial
administrator of the Catholic Community of Pleasanton:
Bishop Allen Vigneron and the Diocese of Oakland affirm and support Father
Padraig Greene in his appointment as parochial administrator of the Catholic
Community of Pleasanton, notwithstanding the recently re-surfaced charges
of lewd conduct from 1999. These charges involved no minors, no children,
nor any other person, and were dismissed by the Alameda County District
Attorney that same year.
Repentant and desiring to put his life back in order, Father Greene spent
several months dealing with this dark moment through extensive therapy
and a program of spiritual renewal at a center in St. Louis. The Diocese
of Oakland, as an expression of our belief in the forgiveness and redemption
God offers to all people, sponsored Father Greene in this program.
Father Greene, who then served as an associate pastor in the Catholic
Community of Pleasanton, has performed exemplary ministry in the Diocese
since that time. There have been no further incidents.
The Diocese of Oakland holds as one of its highest concerns the protection
and safety of children and all parishioners, and is confident in the ministry
Father Greene will continue to bring to the people of Pleasanton.
