Review of Rwandan survivor’s ‘Left to Tell’
will benefit Brown Bag program for seniors

Marjorie Banducci, whose book reviews have raised funds for Mercy Center’s Brown Bag program for the past 19 years, will review “Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust” on Thursday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland.

In the book, Immaculee Ilibagiza recounts her struggle to survive during a three-month killing spree that swept through Rwanda in 1994 and claimed the lives of her family and nearly a million other Rwandans. She hid in the tiny bathroom of a Hutu pastor with seven other women for 91 days, relying on her faith to help her endure and later to forgive the murderers.

Banducci, a member of St. Monica Parish in Moraga, called “Left to Tell” an “awesome book.” It is the centerpiece of Bishop O’Dowd High School’s “One Book, One Community” program this summer.

At the Banducci book review, cash donations will be accepted to support Mercy Brown Bag that provides free groceries twice a month to 1900 needy seniors.
