Continuing the music
tradition
Great music will sound through Peralta Park as Berkeley’s
St. Mary’s High School salutes its long and hallowed music
tradition at the Bobby N. Barrett Afternoon of Music on May 6. The
annual event honors Barrett (shown in this undated photo leading
a band), who spent nearly 30 years as a faculty member and band
leader at the school before his death in 1991. Since its 2002 inception
the event has raised over $300,000 for the school’s tuition
assistance program. The Afternoon of Music, which begins at 2 p.m.
in the school auditorium at 1294 Albina Ave. in Berkeley, will feature
performances by student musicians in a cabaret setting. A hosted
reception will be at 1 p.m. Tickets are $35. Reservation deadline:
April 30. For tickets and event sponsorships, contact Joanne Marchetti
Howe at (510) 559-6227.
