African Bishop Kalilombe to speak in Berkeley
on Church’s response to globalization in

Bishop Patrick Kalilombe, spiritual leader of Malawi, will headline a two- day conference on the Catholic Church’s response to globalization in Africa, March 16-17 at the Jesuit School of Theology, 1735 Leroy Avenue, Berkeley.

In his 7 p.m. Friday address, Bishop Kalilombe, a JSTB alumnus, will highlight how the Church has responded to globalization and discuss some of his country’s present-day political, economic, social and health challenges.
Africa, a continent which is four times wider than the United States, is home to 700 million people living in 52 countries

Saturday’s schedule begins at 9 a.m. with a responding panel of students and professors from JSTB, the University of San Francisco and Santa Clara University. The day will include small group discussions, African music, art, food, and a liturgy. For reservations, email Paulina Espinosa at pespinosa@jstb.edu or phone her at (510) 548-5028. The conference is free, but donations will be accepted.
