Diocese offers post-abortion healing program

The Diocese of Oakland, through its Respect Life ministry, has an outreach healing program called After the Choice, which is available to women and men who are struggling with the emotional and spiritual effects of abortion.

Also known as Project Rachel, it brings together a group of trained therapists, clergy and peer companions, including individuals who have personally experienced abortion, to serve as companions in the journey towards healing. After the Choice is open to Catholics as well as persons from other faith backgrounds.

Its programs include Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreats to assist individuals in moving through the grieving process and to identify all the ways abortion can affect a person.

During these retreats, there is an opportunity to re-connect on a spiritual level with the children who have been aborted and to give them honor and dignity through creative spiritual exercises culminating in a memorial service.

Upcoming Rachel’s Vineyard retreats: Feb. 9-11, March 23-25. Further information on locations, fees,:contact Monika Rodman at (510) 267-8394, or e-mail: mrodman@oakdiocese.org.
