OBITUARIES

Sister Rita Moore, OP
Sister Rita Moore, a former principal at St. Cyril School in Oakland, died Nov. 16 in San Rafael after a brief illness. She was 87.

Born in San Francisco, she graduated from Holy Names High School in Oakland before she joined the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael in 1939. Known for many years as Sister Reginald, the longtime educator taught at St. Rafael School for 12 years. She later served as principal at St. Cyril for three years and was novice mistress for five years. She also taught at schools in Vallejo, Monterey and San Francisco.

The funeral Mass was held Nov. 20 at St. Dominic Church in San Francisco. Burial was at St. Dominic’s Cemetery in Benicia. Donations in her memory may be sent to

Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, 1520 Grand Ave., San Rafael, CA 94901.

Sister Mary Louise Williams, SNDdeN
Sister Mary Louise Williams (Sister Bernadette Julia), a longtime educator who worked at Notre Dame elementary schools throughout California, died Nov. 10 at Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland. She also had served as librarian at Notre Dame High School in San Francisco.

Born in Colusa, CA, she had been a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur for 73 years.
Survivors include her nephews, Eugene Williams of Sebastopol, and Richard Williams and his wife, Judy, of Petaluma; niece, Sandra Shannon of Porterville; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams of Petaluma.

A memorial Mass was held Nov. 30 at Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 1520 Ralston Ave., Belmont, CA 94002.
