Ecumenical service in San Francisco
To commemorate
the historic visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch
Bartholomew of Constantinople, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in San
Francisco is hosting a special liturgy on Nov. 29. Oakland Bishop Allen
Vigneron and San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer will join with
Metropolitan Gerasimos for the 6 p.m. service, which is open to the public.
The service will begin with the blessing and dedication of “Madonna
in Trono” followed by a series of prayers, Scripture readings and
remarks by Archbishop Niederauer and Metropolitan Gerasimos. The joint
choir of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Holy Trinity Church
will provide the music.
Holy Trinity, established in 1903, is the oldest Greek Orthodox church
west of Chicago. It is located at 999 Brotherhood Way in San Francisco.
