Regional youth rally to take place Oct. 28 in Hayward

An estimated 500 youth, many from parishes in southern Alameda County, are expected to come together Oct. 28 for a day-long regional youth rally at St. Bede Church in Hayward. The theme for the rally is, “Master, I Want to See.”

Jesse Manibusan, well-known liturgical composer and musician, and Anna Scally, president of Cornerstone Media, are the keynote speakers. Manibusan will explore the question, “What do You want me to do for You?”, and Scally will make a presentation on “Go your way: Your faith has saved you.”

The event will also include interactive sessions and activities planned by the speakers, a liturgy, dinner, dance and a closing prayer.

This year’s rally builds on the spark created by the previous youth rallies held at St. Leander Parish in San Leandro and St. Joachim in Hayward, said Jim Soltau, director of youth ministry at St. Anne Parish in Union City.

Soltau said local parishes have been generous in their support of the rallies and credited the success to youth ministers, both paid and volunteer, who gave their time to put them together.

The rally targets youth in parishes in Fremont, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Union City. However, youth from two parishes outside the region, St. Patrick in Rodeo and St. Joseph in Pinole, will also participate. Because of the predominately regional focus, participation in the youth rally is limited to about a dozen parishes, Soltau said.

The participation of Manibusan at this year’s rally promises to make the gathering memorable, said Mariano Jauco, director of religious education at St. John the Baptist Parish in San Lorenzo. “Manibusan is wonderful with youth and his presentations combine catechesis and evangelization” he said.
