Catholic colleges rank high on list

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The University of Dayton, a Marianist-run Catholic university, ranked third in a list of U.S. universities and colleges described as “Saviors of Our Cities” for efforts in community revitalization and cultural renewal.
The list was compiled by Evan Dobelle, president of the New England Board of Higher Education. Jesuit-run Creighton University, the only other Catholic university on the list, ranked 25th.

Both Creighton and the University of Dayton also were in this year’s annual college rankings compiled by the Princeton Review. Creighton was listed among the nation’s top 361 colleges and universities in the country and was listed with the University of Dayton among the 163 best Midwestern colleges.

DePaul University in Chicago topped the list for colleges with a diverse student population and the University of San Francisco placed 17th on the list.

Notre Dame was one of three Catholic colleges, along with the University of Dallas and The Catholic University of America in Washington, ranked as top schools where students pray on a regular basis.
