Mission . . . Bishop O’Dowd High School is a Catholic co-educational, college preparatory high school administered by the Diocese of Oakland, which affirms the teachings, moral values and ethical standards of the Catholic Church. This unique and diverse community strives to develop young men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion through an integrated academic, spiritual, and extra-curricular program. Curriculum. . . Students are offered a full college preparatory curriculum and honors and AP courses in 14 subjects including, computer programming, art, multimedia design, psychology, environmental science, and four languages.  An engaging religious studies and service learning curriculum, a fully integrated arts and drama program, PE, and multiple electives round out the curriculum.  A highly qualified and technically literate professional faculty and state of the art wireless modern classrooms support the extensive use of digital technology, including students’ personal laptops.
Co-Curricular Activities . . . Campus Ministry:  All students participate in a multifaceted Campus Ministry program that includes class and schoolwide liturgies, retreats, campus ministry teams, service and leadership in the local and global community throughout the four years.  Interscholastic

Profile . . . Carondelet High School is a four-year Catholic secondary school serving the young women of Contra Costa County. Since its founding in 1965, Carondelet has carried on a proud tradition of Christian community and academic excellence. The campus is located thirty miles east of San Francisco, making it accessible to many cultural and educational facilities. Students commute from within a 30mile radius of the school, representing approximately 45 support schools. The student population of 800 provides a rich diversity reflecting the cultural, ethnic and socio-economic realities of the Bay Area.
Mission . . . Carondelet High School, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, provides a quality Catholic education in a caring environment. Carondelet educates, challenges and enables young women to integrate gospel values, to intelligently apply these values to their lives, and to reflect these values through leadership and service to the greater community.
Curriculum . . . Students are offered a full college preparatory curriculum including elective courses in art, computer science, music, and physical education. Our focus is a single-sex, comprehensive educational program designed to prepare women for leadership and service in the 21st century. On the junior and senior level, the combined course offerings of Carondelet and De La Salle (an adjacent Catholic boys’ school) provide opportunities for those who seek a co-educational experience. Academic, college, career, and personal counseling services are provided at Carondelet. Each student has an academic advisor. High School

Profile . . . De La Salle is a private Catholic high school founded in 1965 by the Christian Brothers. The campus includes a state-of-the art student center and cafeteria, 400-seat theatre, library and media center, retrofitted gymnasium with new locker rooms and weight room, pool, athletic field complex, computer center, art studios, and a music building. The faculty consists of 68 professionals; the administration includes one Christian Brother and three lay persons. There are also seven counselors, two of whom are the College Counselors. De La Salle is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Its current six-year accreditation runs through June 2009.
Mission Statement . . . De La Salle High School is a Roman Catholic educational community where students are loved, instructed, and guided according to the traditions of the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the charism of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, Founder of the Brothers and Patron of Teachers. De La Salle provides a Catholic, Lasallian education rooted in a liberal arts tradition, which prepares young people for college and life. The school seeks to educate students spiritually, academically, physically, and socially through the promotion of a vital faith life, sponsorship of strong academic programs, a wide range of student activities, and the witness of a concerned and dedicated faculty, administration, and staff. Profile . . . Holy Names High School was established by the Sisters of Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1868 on the shores of Lake Merritt, the first high school in Oakland. In 1931, it outgrew its original campus and moved to its present site on Harbord Drive. The traditions, values, and goals of the founding Sisters continue to shape its present mission—the full development and education of young women leaders who aspire to serve others.
Mission Statement . . . Holy Names High School, a small Catholic school for young women, provides an academically challenging college preparatory education in a vibrant learning environment. Curriculum . . . Holy Names High School offers a strong college preparatory curriculum, including honors and advanced placement courses. The curriculum is enriched by an outstanding fine and performing arts program, a long-standing tradition at Holy Names. Each department emphasizes mastery of the subject, develops critical thinking skills, and provides students with appropriate tools and technologies to access, critique and present information. Student Activities . . . At Holy Names the student activities program is an integral part of the learning process and environment which provides opportunities for personal growth and fun during high school years. Profile . . . Moreau Catholic High School (MCHS) is a coeducational college preparatory high school, fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC). Founded in 1965, Moreau Catholic High School bears the name of Venerable Father Basil Moreau, the founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the religious order that sponsors the institution. Moreau Catholic is situated on a 14 acre campus in Hayward, California.
Mission Statement . . . Moreau Catholic High School is dedicated to the legacy and values of the Congregation of Holy Cross and its founder, Father Basil Moreau. We are a college-preparatory school committed to outstanding achievement. As a community of faith, we prepare our students through academic, social and spiritual learning experiences that form and transform them as they become responsible citizens of our global community.
Curriculum . . . The school’s college preparatory curriculum stresses academic excellence, critical thinking skills, and effective preparation for success in college. Our program is geared to meet college admission requirements and it fulfills all State of California high school educational requirements. We offer 14 Advanced Placement courses beginning in the 10th grade and numerous honors courses, beginning in the 9th grade. The English department provides a sequential writing program, portfolio assessment, and smaller class sizes. The Campus Ministry program includes a mandatory retreat program for grades 9 and 10.
Philosophy . . . Moreau Catholic High School enters into a partnership with the family and provides opportunities and means by which students are guided to higher levels of spiritual, social and academic development. Mission Statement . . . Curriculum . . . Salesian High School has a strong college preparatory curriculum that exceeds California State requirements. Philosophy . . . Curriculum . . . An urban Catholic college preparatory school offering a quality education to students in grades nine through twelve. Students are required to pursue a course of study which includes enrollment in seven courses each semester. A student must earn no less than 260 units and complete the Christian Service requirement in order to be granted a Saint Elizabeth High School diploma. The course of study must include the following graduation requirements: Religion (40 units); English (60 units); Social Studies (30 units); Math (30 units); Physical Ed. (20 units); Fine Arts (10 units); Science (20 units); Electives (50 units); Christian Service (100 hours).
Student Activities . . . Student activities include such groups as the National Honor Society, Music, Ministry, Drama Club, Yearbook, Intramural Athletics, African Student Union, Latino Club, Asian Club, Campus Ministry, YES Team and Student Government. Athletic offerings include: football, soccer, volleyball, softball, track, baseball, and basketball. The Campus Ministry program exists for the entire Saint Elizabeth High School faith community. Scholarship and Tuition Assistance: Saint Elizabeth High School is committed to providing financial assistance for its students who might not otherwise be able to afford a quality Catholic education. Families with substantiated financial need may qualify for tuition reduction service grants. Scholarships are available for entering students who show strong potential for academic achievement as evidenced by grades, recommendations and test scores. Present students who demonstrate consistent academic success are also eligible for academic scholarships. Funds for scholarships and service grants are provided through the

Profile . . . Saint Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory parish high school that has a rich tradition and long history of Catholic secondary education serving Alameda and other East Bay communities. SJND is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA). Our program of instruction emphasizes academic excellence, teaches moral values, and encourages service within the context of a faith community.
Philosophy . . . Each SJND student is enabled to achieve his or her full potential in an atmosphere that provides rigorous academic instruction, builds upon Catholic values, and fosters a feeling of security and acceptance. We educate students to meet the intellectual, social, and ethical challenges of living in a technological and global society. Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School graduates are inspired by Christ, active learners, healthy individuals, responsible citizens and effective communicators.
Curriculum . . . SJND provides a college preparatory curriculum through a variety of Advanced Placement classes, Honors courses, and electives. A comprehensive Visual and Performing Arts Program offers opportunities for further development of the whole person. Four full-time counselors facilitate individual academic and college counseling for each student. The Catholic dimension of life at SJND complements the academic program and offers leadership opportunities through monthly liturgies, class retreats, and a community service requirement. Study resources include a college-level library and computer and Internet access for all students.
Student Activities . . . The Campus Life Team (CLT), comprised of Student Council, Class Officers, and the Campus Ministry Team, provides leadership opportunities for 44 students each year. Additionally, SJND students have options to participate in 26 athletic teams, two yearly theater productions, Pep Band, a variety of clubs, and teacher-led travel. Three publications (the yearbook, newspaper, and national award-winning literary magazine PRISMS) offer other avenues for student involvement in campus life.

Saint Mary’s offers competitive athletic programs in 20 interscholastic sports as a member of the Bay Shore Athletic League (BSAL) and has achieved a variety of league titles and championships, including five individual State Champions within the past 6 years. STEPS FOR APPLYING TO
CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOLS

1. Obtain the application packets from all of the Catholic High Schools to which you plan to apply. Students may apply to one or up to three Catholic high schools and be assured that each school will receive copies of their test scores.

2. Attend OPEN HOUSES and visit the schools which interest you and meet your needs. Consult this brochure for calendar dates or call individual schools. Seek information about other opportunities for school visita- tions. Considering your personal strengths and aptitudes, discuss with your 8th grade teacher(s), principal and parents, the high school programs that best meet your needs.

3. Complete and submit your applications on time.

4. Take the High School Placement test on January 20, 2007 at one of the schools to which you have applied. You may take it only once, but on the answer sheet list your school test site as well as the other Catholic high schools to which you have applied so your test scores can be sent there. If the test is taken more than once, the lower score will be used. The Grade Request and Confidential Recommendation forms are due to the high schools on February 2, 2007.

5. Letters regarding your admission status will be mailed on or after March 9, 2007.

6. Pay registration fees to the school you plan to attend by the deadline.
