Catholics invited to join confraternity for the Eucharist

Catholics throughout the East Bay are invited to join members of the recently formed
Confraternity of Eucharistic Devotion, Diocese of Oakland (CEDDO) for the group’s opening Mass and first membership meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 860 Oak Grove Road in Concord.

The association was created in April at the urging of Bishop Allen Vigneron to encourage prayer, Eucharistic devotion and spiritual growth in the local Catholic community and was formally recognized during the diocesan celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi on June 18.

The organization’s members will also be called upon to help organize and participate in various Eucharistic devotions in parishes and deaneries, such as Eucharistic processions, Forty Hours devotions and exposition of the Holy Eucharist.

Membership in CEDDO is open to Catholics of all ages. Prospective members are required to be in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church and have “a desire to give honor and glory to the Lord by means of Eucharistic devotions,” according to their posting on diocesan website: www.oakdiocese.org/pastoral/ceddo/.

In addition to participation at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation, CEDDO members must commit themselves to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for other members of the Confraternity, pray the Confraternity prayer daily, attend Masses with other Confraternity members, and financially support the Confraternity, if possible.

Membership application, also available at the website, and donations for the association should be sent to CEDDO, c/o St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 860 Oak Grove Road, Concord, CA 94518.

Bishop Allen Vigneron elevates the Sacred Host during an outdoor procession, June 18, from Oakland’s St. Elizabeth Church to St. Jarlath Church. The diocesan event to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi included formal recognition of the new confraternity for devotion to the Eucharist.
