Daughters of Charity remember 1906
The June 2, 1906 issue of The Monitor newspaper of the
San Francisco Archdiocese reported that the April 18 earthquake and fire
had destroyed St. Vincent Convent at Mission and Third Streets.
The account is one of many in “Steel Frames: Eyewitness Accounts
of the 1906 Earthquake by the Daughters of Charity.” The just published
book, available for $14.95, is filled with 140 pages of striking photos,
telegrams, and letters.
The authors, Sister Margaret Ann Gainey and Sister Estela Morales, will
host a book signing and tea at Seton Hospital in Daly City on April 24
