A gala with heart
Grammy Award winning artist Michael McDonald will perform at the
Heart of Mercy Gala, a benefit for the Mercy Retirement and Care
Center in Oakland on Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m. The event, which includes
dinner, will be held at the Oakland Greek Community Center, 4700
Lincoln Ave. in Oakland. The Gala will honor Bishop Emeritus John
Cummins, the late Mercy Sister Patrick Curran and the East Bay Council
of the Knights of Columbus for their contributions to the Center’s
ministry to older adults. Tickets are $150 per person and are tax

Living the faith
Jerome P. Baggett, associate professor of religion and society at
the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley and visiting professor
