The Oakland Diocese has 40 new graduates of the School
for Pastoral Ministry and Escuela de Ministerios Pastorales. They join
nearly 300 others who have completed the three-year faith-formation program
which is conducted by the diocesan Department of Faith and Ministry Formation.
Begun in 1995, the English-speaking program offers monthly classes in
spirituality, Scripture, catechesis and social justice. The classes are
held one Saturday each month at Holy Names University in Oakland.
The Spanish-language program is offered in seven-week segments at six
parishes – Most Holy Rosary, Antioch; Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fremont;
St. Elizabeth, Oakland; St. Peter Martyr, Pittsburg; St. Paul, San Pablo;
Our Lady of the Rosary, Union City.
Among the students of both programs are lay men and women wanting to improve
