EWTN to celebrate its 25th anniversary
in S.F. Jan. 28, 29

EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a West Coast celebration, Jan. 28-29 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. All events during the two-day observance are free and open to the public.

Oakland Bishop Allen Vigneron will be the celebrant and homilist at the concluding liturgy on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Michael Warsaw, EWTN president, will open the celebration on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by an address by Dominican Father Brian Mullady, host of EWTN’s “Seven Sacraments.”

Mass with the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

The afternoon session begins at 2 p.m. with an address by Father Francis Mary Stone, host of EWTN’s “Life on the Rock” youth series. From 3-4 p.m. there will be a question and answer session with Deacon Bill Steltemeier, chairman of EWTN, and some of the members of Mother Angelica’s religious community.

Raymond Arroya, author of “Mother Angelica – The Remarkable Story of a Nun, Her Nerve and a Network of Miracles,” will speak at 4:15.

Saturday’s events will conclude with a live telecast (6-7:30 p.m.) of Marcus Grodi’s “Journey Home” program with guests Doug Gonzales and Bob Fishman.

Fishman, a convert from Judaism is the host of EWTN's series "GK Chesterton: The Apostle of Common Sense."

On Sunday, Johnette Benkkovic, host of EWTN’S “Abundant Life” series will speak from 9:15-10:15, followed by the closing liturgy at 11 a.m.

A seven-hour telecast of the San Francisco celebration will air on EWTN on Feb. 4, starting at 8 a.m.

EWTN began in the garage of Mother Angelica’s monastery in Alabama and now airs to more than 55 million U.S. households and additional viewers in Latin America and around the world.

EWTN is carried on Comcast Digital Ch. 229, DISH Satellite Channel 262 and DirectTV Channel 422. In Alameda, it airs on Comcast Channel 30 and Alameda Power Channel 26.
