Walk for Life march in San Francisco on Jan. 21

Pro-life supporters will gather in San Francisco for the second annual Walk for Life West Coast to be held on Sat., Jan 21. The march will begin at Justin Herman Plaza and continue along the waterfront to the Marina.

Last year’s event drew 7,500 participants but also faced vehement counter demonstrations as well as opposition from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and the city’s Board of Supervisors. Organizers are expecting similar hostility this time and said pro-abortion supporters have been planning their response for months.

“We can’t let them stop us from getting our message of compassion out to all women,” said Eva Muntean of San Francisco, co-chair of the walk. The event is sponsored by Feminists for Life of America, an organization based in Washington, D.C.

The walk is scheduled for the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which was handed down on Jan. 22, 1973 and legalized abortion in the U.S. Its slogan is “Women Deserve Better than Abortion.”

It begins with a rally at Justin Herman Plaza at 11 a.m., with marchers leaving the plaza at noon for the 2.5 mile trek to the Marina. There organizers will provide a pregnancy resources fair on the green.

Speakers will include Feminists for Life President Serrin M. Foster; Rev. Clenard Childress, founder of BlackGenocide.org; and Star Parker, founder and president of the Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education.

“Our mission is to change the perceptions of a society that thinks abortion is the answer,”
Muntean said. “Our goal in establishing the Walk for Life West Coast is to shed light on all issues of life but particularly to change hearts hurt by the violence of abortion.”
