Pope gives blessing

Pope John Paul II blesses the faithful as he appears at the window of Rome’s Gemelli hospital, Feb. 27, where he is recovering from surgery to his throat. Pope John Paul missed his weekly blessing for the first time in his 26-year pontificate, but speaking through an aide, thanked the world for its concern over his health and asked the faithful to pray for him.
