Twenty-one
men who are preparing to become permanent deacons in the Oakland Diocese
will participate in the Rite of Candidacy, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady
of Grace Church in Castro Valley.
This brings them one step closer to ordination.
The men are:
Jorge Angel, All Saints, Hayward; John Archer, Jr., St. Raymond, Dublin;
John Ashmore, Most Holy Rosary, Antioch;
Herbert Casey, St. Bonaventure, Concord; Clement Chen, St. Monica, Moraga;
David Cloyne, St. Michael, Livermore; Rey Encarnacion, St. Agnes, Concord;
Richard Gierak, St. Bonaventure, Concord; Charles Glover, Holy Spirit,
Fremont; Arturo Jimenez, St. Paul, San Pablo;
Martin Leach, Transfiguration, Castro Valley; Orland Nethercott, Holy
Spirit, Fremont; John Nguyen, St. Felicitas, San Leandro; Gilbert Pesqueira,
Catholic Community of Pleasanton;
Dario Sanchez, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fremont; James Smith, St. Joachim,
Hayward; Peter Ta, St. Joachim, Hayward;
Noe Tuason, Our Lady of Good Council, San Leandro; Ronald Tutson, St.
Benedict, Oakland; Lance Vivet, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fremont; Kenneth
Wedge, St. Ignatius, Antioch.
Upon ordination, the permanent deacon candidates will join 95 permanent
deacons now in active ministry in the Oakland Diocese. Fourteen permanent
deacons who have been ordained for the diocese have retired.
