Diocese has guidelines for abuse prevention

All diocesan and parish employees and all volunteers who work with children under 18 are required to sign a set of guidelines each year to insure a safe environment for minors.

The policy, which sets forth strict limits on contact with young people, was adopted in June 2004.

The guidelines specify the circumstances in which adults may meet with minors, offer them counseling or discipline, accompany them on excursions, provide lessons or carry out other activities.

Any violations of these norms are to be reported to appropriate authorities.
