OBITUARY
Father James P. McSorlely, O.M.I.
Oblate Father James P. McSorley, who had been a resident
at the Mercy Retirement and Care Center in Oakland since 2003, died there
on May 27. He was 84 years old.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1921, he entered the Congregation of the Missionary
Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1937 and was ordained to the priesthood
in 1946. He served in the Philippines for 16 years from 1946 – 1960.
He also spent many years in Germany as a military chaplain and in various
pastoral ministries in Idaho and Washington.
The funeral Mass was held June 7 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Oblate
residence in Tewksbury, MA followed by burial in the community’s
cemetery.
