New position for Concord pastor

Father George Mockel, pastor at St. Agnes Parish in Concord, will be the new vicar general and moderator of the curia of the Oakland Diocese, effective July 1. He succeeds Father Larry Silva, who leaves the diocese to become Bishop of Honolulu. An Oakland native and graduate of St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, Father Mockel was ordained to the priesthood in 1975. He previously served as judicial vicar of the diocesan canon law department and was a president of the senate of priests.
