Five parishes get new boundaries

By Voice staff

Five neighboring parishes in eastern Alameda County received new boundaries last month in an effort to better reflect changes in the population of the fast-growing region.

The parishes affected are the Catholic Community of Pleasanton, St. Michael and St. Charles in Livermore, St. Raymond in Dublin and St. Joan of Arc in San Ramon.

The parish boundaries needed to be upgraded because of area growth. “When the parish boundaries were originally made there were just pastures and mountain land, and now it is developments and new communities,” said Father Robert McCann, St. Raymond pastor. “It was important to give them some parish to identify with.”

The new boundaries are:
Catholic Community of Pleasanton: the boundaries on the north continue to be the Pleasanton Township boundary and Highway 580, then east to El Charro Road, south to Stanley Blvd., east to Isabel Ave., then south to Vallecitos Road, etc. as presently configured. The parish now includes the Livermore Airport previously in St. Michael Parish. It also gives the section of Ruby Hills, with the 10-acre vineyards and homes on them to St. Charles Parish.

The boundary that divides St. Michael Parish and St. Raymond Parish north of Highway 580 changed from Tasajara Road, east to the point at which Fallon Road meets Highway 580 and then due north to the Contra Costa County line. As a result of this change, all of the development of East Dublin is within the boundaries of St. Raymond Parish.

The boundary that divides St. Raymond Parish and St. Joan of Arc Parish to the north of St. Raymond Parish continues to be Montevideo Drive east to the point at which it meets Alcosta Blvd. Then the boundary of St. Raymond Parish goes north along Alcosta Boulevard, to a point north of Terra Alta Drive, but before the golf course. The boundary then continues in a straight line southeast to the meeting point of the south end of Bollinger Canyon Road and Dougherty Road. The boundary then goes east from that point to a straight line to Tassajara Road. This change clarifies the boundaries along roads that did not exist when the original boundaries were drawn.

The boundaries of St. Charles Parish are: beginning at the Western Pacific Railroad tracks and Isabel Ave. south along Isabel Ave. to Vallecitos Road, north on Vallecitos Road until it connects with Holmes Street and Wetmore Road to the east, then Wetmore Road to Arroyo Road on the east, north to College Ave., west to South P Street and then north to the Western Pacific Railroad, then west to Isabel Ave. As a result of this change the triangle of Vallecitos Road, Isabel Ave. and Vineyward Road was separated from the territory of the Catholic Community of Pleasanton and became part of St. Charles Parish. All other boundaries remained unchanged.
